DIY detox!
Ahead of Monday's night of New Year's Eve parties, Us Weekly asked celebs including Zoe Saldana and Pretty Little Liars' Ashley Benson** to share their top tips on how to recover after a major bash. Plus, experts weigh in on the post-partying tricks the celebs swear by.
ZOE SALDANA TELLS US**: "Before going to bed, I put Epsom salts into a warm bath and soak for 15 minutes. The next day I wake up with half the night erased."
WHAT THE EXPERT SAYS: Magnesium sulfate (a.k.a. Epsom salt) can reduce bloating by drawing fluids out of the body, says Laura Ann Conroy, an aesthetician for Bliss. For morning-after puffiness, smooth on the Body Shop's Spa Fit Gel Massager. Its grapefruit essential oils help flush water out of the system. ($30, thebodyshop.com)
ASHLEY BENSON TELLS US**: "I refresh my skin with a cucumber mask, followed by a lot of moisturizer."
WHAT THE EXPERT SAYS: NYC-based dermatologist Dennis Gross maintains that cucumber extract helps attract and bind moisture to skin. No cuke-infused potions in the medicine cabinet? Apply Dr. Jart's Water Fuse Water-Full Hydrogel Mask for 15 minutes. "The cool-to-the-touch patch drenches skin cells with hydrating hyaluronic acid. ($42 for five, sephora.com)
LIV TYLER TELLS US**: "Hair of the dog always works. A nice breakfast is also very important."
WHAT THE EXPERT SAYS: Skip the alcohol. "It just delays the inevitable," says physician Frank Lipman, founder of NYC's Eleven Wellness Center. Breakfast, however, is key: "Eggs contain cysteine to break down toxins and make you feel less sluggish." At the very least, take a supplement like CocoaWell, which contains cocoa powder, a natural energy stimulant. ($30, Whole Foods)
ALLISON WILLIAMS TELLS US**: "The smell of rosemary in my eye cream wakes me up. It's pretty spectacular and helps diminish dark circles after a late night of partying."
WHAT THE EXPERT SAYS: Though rosemary is a proven antioxidant, vitamin K constricts blood vessels, helping under-eye circles diminish faster, notes Leighton Meester's facialist, Micheline Reboh of NYC's Paul Lebrecque Salon and Spa. Try Peter Thomas Roth's Eye Rescue. ($100, peterthomasroth.com)
SHAY MITCHELL TELLS US**: "To get rid of swelling around my eyes, I put green tea bags on my eyelids. Or I grab cold spoons that I leave in the freezer and put them on my eyes."
WHAT THE EXPERT SAYS: "Green tea contains anti-inflammatory caffeine," explains Anna Faris**' Dallas-based facialist, Renee Rouleau. "And anything cold reduces puffiness when applied for 10 minutes." Clinique's All About Eyes Serum delivers a one-two punch: a caffeine-rich formula dispensed through an icy metal tip. ($28, clinique.com)
