Toni Braxton has been hospitalized in Los Angeles with complications relating to the autoimmune disease Lupus.

The "Unbreak My Heart" singer, 45, broke the news in a tweet to her 670,000 followers on Twitter on Friday, Dec. 7.

"Hey guys, I'm in the hospital for health issues related to Lupus & blood clots," she shared on the micro-blogging site. "I will be home soon...Thanks for all the love & support!"

Braxton -- who stars in the WE TV reality show Braxton Family Values -- has been vocal about her family history with Lupus in the past and recently told 20/20 that the disease pushed her into bankruptcy. Her uncle died from complications of the condition several years ago, and her brother suffers from it, as well. The star revealed her own diagnosis in 2010, while accepting a Woman in Achievement award from the 8th Annual Lupus L.A. Bag Ladies Luncheon.

"Today, I'm going to talk about it because I'm a survivor and I'm here, and I don't want to lose hope," she said in her speech. "Take a look -- this is what lupus looks like."

Wow! I had no idea so many people on this site even knew what 'Lupus' was. Impressive. I was diagnosed with SLE almost 11 years ago, with a life expectancy of 10 years. 15 if I was 'very lucky'. I suppose since I've just gone past the 10 year mark, I'm in the 'very lucky' part of my journey. Lupus is the devil. It's terrible to live with, and although I'm alive, I'm not quite sure it's the same as 'living'. I'm very limited in what I'm able to do physically and that causes problems in every aspect of your daily life. I cannot count how many times I've been hospitalized, and I don't usually tell people I don't know, that I'm terminally ill. However, there are a couple of people on here who are dear friends, and they know that my time here is limited. Also, to the person asking how Toni 'got it', you don't catch it. You're born with it. But it tends to lay dormant in your body until something brings on a flare. There is also NO CURE for Lupus, so to the person who said they were 'cured', I'm sorry, that's impossible. You may be in remission. But at this moment in time, there is no 'Cure'. Yes, there are treatments and clinical trials, but until there is a cure, there's always the chance that it will flare up again. Of course not everyone who has Lupus is terminal like I am. There are different kinds of Lupus, and different symptoms for each person as we're all different. However, in 20 years I have never had a remission. By the time I was diagnosed 11 years ago, it had already damaged a lot of my major organs. Anyway, I'm glad Lupus is getting more notice, as we're fairly low on the totem pole of importance. It just stinks that it takes someone being taken to hospital for it to be recognized. Sorry this is so long. This is the first I've ever posted about my struggle for all to see.
