December 15, 2012

The show will go on . . . at a later date.

In the wake of the elementary school shooting that left 20 children seven adults dead in Newtown, Conn., Dec. 14, the Pittsburgh, Penn., the premiere of Tom Cruise**'s Jack Reacher has been postponed, Paramount Pictures tells Us Weekly in a statement. (The actor plays an ex-army cop who investigates a seemingly random sniper shooting in a Pittsburgh park.)

"Due to the terrible tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut, and out of honor and respect for the families of the victims whose lives were senselessly taken, we are postponing tomorrow's Pittsburgh premiere of Jack Reacher," the film studio said Dec. 15. "Our hearts go out to all those who lost loved ones."

Cruise, 50, kicked off the Jack Reacher promo tour Dec. 10 in London and has since traveled to Sweden and Spain.

Adam Lanza, 20, shot his mother, a teacher, and 26 others at Sandy Hook Elementary School Dec. 14. He subsequently shot himself. The tragedy began just after 9:40 a.m.

@Vikki....I read on CNN that she had volunteered in the school. The perpetrator was a previous student. The mother and father divorced in 2008. The father left the ex wife with enough money to retire from from some tax/ financial job. The perpetrator was diagnosed surgery Aspergers. He was known as social awkward(most aspees are) but not violent. The mothers brother us a police chief in a town in NH. From all interviews from the the perps family is that they never would have thought this from this kid. There was several errors that were reported incorrectly in the coverage of this travesty. I'm sure there will be more. I hope as a nation and out of respect for those parents that lost their kids, we can hug our children a little tighter and tell our loved ones how we feel any chance we can. Such sorrow I feel. Words can't express....

Even people who have a jobs to carry guns kills people too. But u dont hear about like this. These guns that this young man use r had was register to his mother so therefore her background was check. What I dont understand why a mother would have so many deadly weapons around someone with mental issues r if thats the truth about the young man? One minvte he was very smart,on the A honor roll in school, a genius, they cant believe he would do something like that next he was a trouble child, a ticking time bomb. Everytime u look at the news the story changes like the police is hiding something r dont wont the truth to be known. It went from his mother worked at the school to she was a sub, to teacher aide, to she never was employed there. The story changes all the time. Im just wondering why? What r they not telling? We hear what they want us know but is it all the truth. Is there someone on here can explain it to me? No stupid r rude comments Im a mother and Im trying to understand why the stories changing, why he go there if his mother never work there. One minute hes a genius, computer wiz next hes a troubled child, ticking time bomb.

People with jobs that requires gun, should be the only ones allow to have guns, and may be some other cases of protections, it should be carefully evaluated, and back ground checks, before license someone, and no-one without license should be allowed to purchase weapons of any kind. Guns trafficking is out there as much as drugs,is obvious. New laws and policies must become in effect. Incidents like the ones that are happening in our schools and our children's seem more common. Something must get done, bottom line. Talking and lamenting is not fixing it, t just got to get done.

Guns don't kill people. Stupid people with guns kill people.

@Newbie. My mother had a Rutger(?) a Lady Smith Wesson and a snub nose 38. She lived in Northern Cali on a couple of acres and in Nevada...also a couple of acres....alone. she died and now I have those 3 guns and an antique riffle. the guns are in a safe' the bullets are hidden and locked up in a walk icloset. We have the right to bear arms. I don't use mine since I am not trained yet' but criminals and crazies will always find a way. Yes I have a young son....good luck on him finding the keys to the safe and especially findinding the bullets. My Mom kept them hidden well and so do I. But it boils down to mental health issues.

I forgot this....I see no need for civilians to have semi-automatic rifles. None whatsoever. They were made fir combat. Also how about some of these so called games the kids are playing? Grand theft auto isn't something a child should play. Buy everyone has to be on board with that. My son tried to play it once. It was never played again in my home. But his friend was given the game by his parents. He was 13! Please know that I'm not saying that this is what happened. I'm saying that continuously playing games that kill people has to desensitize some people. As a mother I think that there should be a checkpoint in schools. But someone has to have the manpower to make sure someone isn't sneaking onto school grounds. Still praying for these families. I can't imagine.

POSTERS WERE DEBATING GUN CONTROL AS A SOLUTION AND I GAVE MY OPINION. MY POINT: THE WHYS (EVIL/CRAZY) OF THE CRIME R MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE HOWS (GUNS)? KILLING IS THEIR ULTIMATE FANTASY SO THEY WILL JUST FIND A DIFFERENT WEAPON. GC WILL NEVER WORK.

I have had a gun pulled out of the closet and used to intimidate me before. This person has gone to jail for breaking the law because of at least 3 restraining orders. The kicker is he still has the guns in His possession. He doesn't get it and unfortunately the law can't be everywhere at anytime. So what I'm trying to say is this; it doesn't matter how many laws are in place if there isn't enough manpower to make sure people abide by the law. And NO ONE gets to blame the mother for having guns in the house. The perpetrator(her son) wasn't known as violent. I'm sure she had them locked up. But remember she's the first one to die in this tragedy. Are we going to start blaming cars when they are used by a drunk driver? We need a solution and we need one fast but to do away with guns altogether isn't going to solve it.
