Awkward!

Robert Pattinson** stopped by the Today show Nov. 8 -- a day after his costar and on-again girlfriend Kristen Stewart appeared on the program -- to promote the fifth and final installment of the Twilight Saga, Breaking Dawn - Part 2.

After making some small talk about the film, co-anchor Savannah Guthrie put the 26-year-old actor in the hot seat, prompting him to open up about his rekindled romance with Stewart post-cheating scandal. (The actress, 22, had a fling with Rupert Sanders, her married Snow White and the Hunstman director, back in July.)

"So yesterday I asked Kristen if you two had gotten back together," Guthrie began, noting that Stewart had dodged the inquiry. "So now I want to ask you."

Pattinson then turned the question around, saying politely, "I want to ask, because we get asked it all the time. Who is actually asking? Is it in your contract?"

At that, the Today co-anchor backed off a little. "Does it get annoying?" she asked. "Is it a high price to pay? You've gotten these films, it's made you incredibly famous, there's been so much good with it -- but it is personal now."

"It doesn't have to be," the Twilight actor replied, laughing uncomfortably. "I could just sit here and talk nonsense about...getting old, needing a nap."

Guthrie couldn't get a straight answer out of the actor's on-again love, either. On Wednesday, she pressed Stewart for details on the relationship -- and came up similarly empty.

"Kristen, you have so many fans, and they will be mad at us if we don't ask you," Guthrie said. "Are you back together with Robert Pattinson?"

"Funny you mention that," the star responded, averting her eyes. "I'm going to just let people watch whatever little movie they think our lives are. Keep 'em guessing, I always say."
