President Obama Gets Tearful Addressing Connecticut School Shooting
December 14, 2012

Like millions of people in America and across the world on Friday Dec. 14, President Barack Obama** was overwhelmed with emotion speaking about the horrific events that unfolded at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. -- in which a shooter murdered seven adults and 20 young children.

Obama, 51, addressed the country as news of the senseless killings emerged.

"We've endured too many of these tragedies in the past few years, and each time I learn the news I react not as a president, but as anybody else would, as a parent," said Obama, who shares daughters Malia, 14, and Sasha, 11, with wife Michelle. "And that was especially true today. I know there's not a parent in America who doesn't feel the same overwhelming grief that I do."

"The majority of those who died today were children, beautiful little kids between the years of 5 and 10 years old," he continued before pausing, visibly tearful and overcome.

Wiping his eyes, he continued: "They had their entire lives ahead of them: birthdays, graduations, weddings. Kids of their own. Among the fallen were also teachers, men and women who devoted their lives to helping our children fulfill their dreams.

"So our hearts are broken today for the parents and grandparents, sisters and brothers of these little children and for the families of the adults who were lost. Our hearts are broken for the parents of the survivors as well. For as blessed as they are to have their children home tonight, they know that their children's innocence has been torn away from them too early and there are no words that will ease their pain.

"As a country we have been through this too many times," he said before listing the many sites of previous mass shootings in Oregon, Colorado, Wisconsin and more. "These neighborhoods are our neighborhoods, and these children are our children. We're going to have to come together and take meaningful action to prevent more tragedies like this, regardless of the politics."

The gunman, Adam Lanza, has been reported dead; the tragedy now ranks as the second-deadliest school shooting in American history, following the Virginia Tech massacre of 2007, in which 32 people died.

@pizza....no worries, I wasn't sure if it was directed at me or not. But I just wanted to clarify my position, just in case. I have to say, I really try my best never to discuss, debate or argue about religion. I think it's wonderful that people have things they believe in, and I wouldn't want it any other way. But I'm far from being sensitive, my mother is Catholic and she prays and I respect that she does. I just don't. So I won't lie and say I'm praying for people, when I know I'm not really. But I do send out my loving, heartfelt thoughts to people on a daily basis.

No one can Ever Stop, Anyone from Praying over their children! It really Doesn't need to be done in the schools since they took it out! So just pray over your children, before they leave the house! The more God in your house! The more your children will carry Him with them!...God is NOT ABSENT! This is NOT HELL! It's much Worse! In due time, God is going to put a stop to this, because of His Elect! And Chosen! Look towards Jerusalem! (pm) Rev: ch 7 I know why certain things are said!

Just for the record, I made it perfectly clear in my post that I respect anyone and everyone who practices religion. I am far from a 'sensitive non believer', and I'm not claiming that the person who posted that was aiming at me. Like I said, I have my reasons for NOT being religious, and in my opinion, they're very much valid. However, I've never once tried to push my beliefs on anyone else, or even disrespected anyone who chooses to believe in their religion. It's not 'God' per say, that I have an issue with, it's more to do with organized religion. I'm not an atheist, I don't believe there's any such thing. People claim to be, but when they're on their deathbed, they soon change their thoughts. I'm not sure what 'higher power', if any, I believe in. But I live my life through morals and human decency, just like most people do. Anyway, my point was only in regards to president Obama's speech and the fact I don't agree that he should've lead the country in a prayer. Purely as its NOT his place. I do however, hope that the families affected by this horrendous act find comfort in their religion if that's what they turn to. I'm in no way trying to muzzle anyone from having the freedom of religion. Nor would I ever. I don't pray, but my thoughts and my heart goes out to everyone who hurts.

compare how this world is now to how it was in the past. with God being taken out of the equation, more murders, more shootings, more trajedy. evil will always exist but the more we keep God away, evil wins. some dont believe in God. a vast majority does. why should we have to muzzle our beliefs just to keep the overly sensitive non believers happy? whatever religion u r, u believe in a higher power. when christians pray to God, just pray to whatever diety u choose. -insert diety here.- enough with the whining. just pray. if u dont believe in a particular God, do whatever helps u cope. but have respect for the believers. something is trying to tell us that we, as a human race, screwed up, and we r paying the ultimate price. whatever u believe in, just believe.

Praying to GOD has nothing to do with peoples different religions, praying to GOD is not making anyone change their beliefs or harming anyone, It was in schools before
