Here's hoping 2013 is a better year for Nick Stahl.

The Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines star was arrested Thursday, Dec. 27, for allegedly committing a lewd act at a porn paraphernalia and movie shop in Los Angeles, TMZ reports.

According to the site, LAPD undercover vice officers were conducting a routine check of the store when they discovered Stahl, 33, "touching himself" in a private booth. Law enforcement promptly took him into custody and charged him with lewd conduct, a misdemeanor.

Leaving the police station alone a few hours later, the star told reporters that the whole thing had been a "misunderstanding."

In any case, the incident caps an already-bizarre year for the actor. In May, he was reported missing** by his wife, Rose Murphy, after he dropped off the grid for several days, reportedly to check himself into rehab. A month later, upon leaving the treatment program against doctors' advice, he vanished a second time**, resurfacing again** in July.

"He wants to be well," Murphy told E! News after his first disappearance. "He's a good man and we want him home so we can help him."
