Angelina Jolie** has been noticeably scarce over the past few months -- with zero red carpets, a scattering of outings with her kids in London and Los Angeles and a humanitarian trip to the Middle East in September.

But the 37-year-old Oscar winner very quietly attended an event in London Nov. 18 -- slipping into a sexy little black dress and high heels for a private screening of The Impossible at the SoHo Hotel.

Looking serene, with minimal makeup, Jolie posed for a pic with Ewan McGregor, who stars in the drama with Naomi Watts** and others.

With multiple film projects based in the UK (Pitt in The Counselor and World War Z, Jolie in Maleficent) Jolie and fiance Brad Pitt** plus their kids have been living in a $24,000-a-month estate in Surrey, England.

"It's perfect because they're still close to Miraval," a source tells Us of the even grander home they own in the south of France, where some speculate that Jolie and Pitt could hold their top-secret wedding. "They love the house!"
