It's a plaid, mad world.

Just before Christmas, on Dec. 22, Mariah Carey** was spotted in Aspen, Colo., making the rounds, according to the Daily Mail, at luxury stores like Louis Vuitton and Ralph Lauren, all while wearing a floor-length, black and white plaid gown.

The fashion-loving singer is in town with husband Nick Cannon**, 32, and their adorable 19-month-old twins, Monroe and Moroccan, for the holidays. Carey dressed appropriately in winterwear for wholesome family activities like sledding, but for some reason, plucked the dressy plaid number from her closet for the shopping excursion.

Carey topped off the look with a wide, corset-inspired belt and fancy chandelier earrings.
