Ke$ha: I Was "Forced to" Sing "Die Young"
December 19, 2012

Ke$ha** is facing the music over her latest hit single, "Die Young."

In the wake of the horrific tragedy that killed 20 children at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn., many radio stations have pulled the unfortunately named Top 10 track from their rotation. (The song includes lyrics such as "Let's make the most of the night like we're gonna die young" and "We'll keep dancing 'til we die.") And no one is more supportive of that decision than the singer herself.

"I understand," Ke$ha said Dec. 18 in a tweet that has since been deleted. "I had my very own issue with 'Die Young' for this reason. I did NOT want to sing those lyrics and I was FORCED TO."

"I'm so so so sorry for anyone who has been affected by this tragedy," she added. "I understand why my song is now inappropriate. Words cannot express."

Speaking to Billboard about the hit single, Rich Minor, programming director at WDAQ-FM in Danbury, Conn., said: "We've been playing it before Friday but not since and I think we're now done with it. Even though it's a fun pop-dance record about seizing the moment, all people are going to hear right now is those two words in the title."

I love her music. People are too harsh on her. It's obvious why it was pulled, because of the title, but stop trashing her people! She didn't even do anything wrong.

This song isn't innapropriate or offensive in anyway. It wasn't pulled because it is mean spirited and aimed to hurt anyone who has ever lost a child but the timing was unfortunate.

Totally agree, Navy Girl. Anyone, anywhere, at anytime may take song lyrics apply them to a given situation. Isn't that partly the purpose of music? My husband died suddenly at 41 last Christmas Eve, I took thd lyrics from Ke$ha's Die Young song as a reminder to live each day to the fullest, like it might be our last. I'm sure my hubby would want me take that lesson from his loss. I understand being sensitive and respectful of this terrible tragedy, but I think we take things too far...like with pulling this song that's been out for months. It would make more sense to do so if it was a new release, but it's not...

To be honest I didn't even think of the song in that way. I thought it meant to be to live your life to the fullest cause you don't know when God is going to call you. I didn't take it negatively.

This is ridiculous! Does Billy Joel need to apologize for only the good Die Young too?! C'mon and give me a break!

I think that's the right decision to not play it! I like the song too, but yes because of the title, it would remind us of this senseless tragedy. :'(
