Katie Holmes recently experienced her worst nightmare while starring in Broadway's Dead Accounts -- she forgot her lines!

The actress, 34, visited David Letterman on The Late Show Thursday, Dec. 20 and the host asked her if she enjoys performing live.

"I do. It's really fun, and a couple weeks ago I had the moment that I've been dreading," she confessed. "I have this kind of big speech in the second act, and it's pretty important because it kind of goes along with the theme of the show. I said the first line -- and I'm looking at Judy Greer and I'm supposed to be angry at her -- and then the second line I didn't remember. And I didn't remember the third one."

How did Holmes react to her sudden memory loss? "I just looked at her like, ah!" the star explained while reenacting the funny, scared face she made.

How did she recover?

"Obviously, I know what the point of it is. So, I kind of made my way there," Holmes said of having to ad-lib. And she said it "felt like a good hour" before she could get back on track with her lines.

The mom to daughter Suri**, 6, looked stunning during her Late Show visit in a short, form fitting hot pink dress. Even Letterman noticed, and said, "You've never looked lovelier, by the way."
