Based on his gushy Oprah's Next Chapter interview, Justin Bieber** didn't anticipate he would be dumped by Selena Gomez just a few weeks later.

In the Nov. 25 episode, taped before the couple of nearly two years broke up and got back together, Oprah Winfrey** asked the "As Long As You Love Me" singer, 18, why he fell in love with the starlet, 20.

"I am all about genuine people, and I feel like she's just one of the most genuine people," the Canadian crooner gushed. "She just has a good heart. And I can talk to her about anything."

Though a source previously told Us Weekly Gomez "had major trust issues" before pulling the plug on their romance in early November, Bieber told Winfrey it's nice dating someone who understands the pressures of fame.

"You just feel sometimes you need someone to be there with you," he explained. "Some days you've gone through, you have pain in your heart because maybe you haven't dealt with that. Some days you're depressed and you don't know why because you haven't dealt with it."

Winfrey also questioned the multiplatinum pop star about his desire to marry young. "You are Oprah and you're telling me not to get married at 25. I should probably listen to you," Bieber said. "We'll see when I get there, but I'm not there yet."

Bieber -- who also said he doesn't "have a lot of friends" -- said he's doing his best to maintain a normal life. "There's so many sacrifices. . . but at the end of the day, I've been able to do so much that I would have never been able to do."
