Jon Bon Jovi has remained silent in the wake of his 19-year-old daughter Stephanie's arrest following a reported heroin overdose**, but insiders tell Us Weekly the ordeal has been more than a little trying for the rocker and his family.

"This was a shock," a source tells Us. "A very sad shock."

Hamilton College student Stephanie Rose Bongiovi was arrested after midnight on Wednesday, Nov. 14, after Kirkland police responded to a call from her friend, Ian S. Grant, saying that she had overdosed on heroin and was unresponsive. Cops found her in possession of heroin, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia, and charged her with three misdemeanors. The charges were reportedly dropped on Thursday, but the fallout is far from over for her family, whom another source describes as "normal" and tight-knit.

"[Stephanie] is really close with her dad," the second insider tells Us, adding that the famous father of four was always present at school events and functions. "He's a very good dad who loves his kids."

"We were shocked [to hear about what happened]," the source adds. "Stephanie is a sweetheart and so down-to-earth. She always wanted to party, but not in a way that made anyone think differently of her over any other teenager."

Stephanie is Bon Jovi's only daughter with wife Dorothea Hurley. The couple also have three sons: Jesse James, 17, Jacob Hurley, 10, and Romeo Jon, 8.

The rocker's rep had no comment on the incident.

I couldn't agree more @kmomma1! I've been a huge fan since i was 6. My prayers go out to their family. My dad had a heroin addiction for many years. It's a horrible thing to deal with. Thankfully he is now 8 years sober! I hope she can overcome this also!

Just be thankful that she was alive to be charged. Drug's ruin fun timez. Then what is my problem. Roadrunner!

Being a huge fan of Jon and the band since the 80's, and having met his mom and brothers as well, I can tell you...yes he was the lead singer of an 80's hair band. Yes, he messed up a lot with alcohol and women. Has he kept any of this a secret? No! He's made public his mistakes, and deserves credit not only for that, but for having a SUCCESSFUL marriage at 23+ years, and the goal that he and his wife set out to keep their children out of the public eye. This was only the second time I'd ever seen her face. They brought the kids up with values, a good work ethic, and a sense of giving back to others who weren't as lucky and stable as they were financially. I hate that people like Jon and his wife get railroaded and we've got Kim KarTRASHian out there somewhere drunk on Midori and filming *** tapes with all her boyz. And yes, the post was 100% correct about the law in NY state that charges cannot be held against ANYONE who has overdosed NOR anyone who calls for help for that person(s). If there was the knowledge that they'd be criminally charged, how many idiots out there would leave that person to die rather than to call for help?? Get your facts straight. I am completely DISGUSTED at Barack Obama, but to think that because Jon or his family is supportive him that he'd get charges thrown out?? Ha! No. And even if it were possible, I doubt for one second that Jon/Dorothea would be ok with that. She'd have to sleep in the bed she made for herself. That's how those kids were raised. Good parents love their kids, try and teach them well, and do NOT make excuses for their mistakes. Good kids will STILL make mistakes. How else do they learn? Hopefully not from some of the idiotic, judgmental wraiths that post on here.

I have been a fan since the 80s. Not only because of the music, but the devotion to his wife and kids. We are the same age. And I know all to well things like this can happen in the closest of families. We just have to be thankful she is alive to receive the on going unconditional love and support of her amazing family. No one especially this family, should ever be judged by something like this. I am sure with all of the charity work this family does, so many will be helped by their near tragedy. Love, Hugs, Best Wishes, and Prayers to this family.

First @scooter7 there is a law in NY that prohibits prosecutors from prosecuting those that are seeking medical assistance from an overdose think about if there wasn't this law more would die! AND it has NOTHING to do with being the daughter of a celebrity. Oh and you @As.hole how the heck do YOU know the WHOLE not HOLE family is on drugs???? And they should be locked up for lifetimes??? Are you THAT ignorant??? Finally @Fly by night...there is NO federal law making MARIJUANA not MARIHUANA legal. Those are individual state laws, but here's a tidbit of more info for ya...federal laws supersede state laws!

Wait - isn't he good friends with Obama? Just have him pass a law that makes heroin legal like they just did with marihuana then everything will be OK.

And of course the charges got dropped because she's a celebritys daughter.
