Jon Bon Jovi Breaks Silence About Daughter's Overdose, Arrest
November 21, 2012

Jon Bon Jovi has much to be thankful for this holiday season -- and that includes the thoughts and prayers of his fans following his daughter Stephanie's shocking heroin overdose and arrest last week.

Speaking out for the very first time since 19-year-old Stephanie Bongiovi's Nov. 14 incident, the rocker, 50, was philosophical in an interview with Fox 11.

"What I do for a living seems glitzy and glamorous but if you don't take it too seriously it's a great way to make a living," said the singer, who has four kids with wife of 23 years Dorothea Hurley. "And then life goes on. Things happen."

Stephanie and her friend Ian S. Grant were initially arrested at Hamilton College in Kirkland, New York, but charges were subsequently dropped due to recently amended state laws; she recovered from the overdose at a local hospital.

Said her father to Fox 11: "This tragedy was something that I had to face too so we'll get through it. And people's warm wishes for my family and I have been really reassuring. So, we're good"

Still, a source close to the family told Us that the "Bad Medicine" rocker and her family are reeling. "No one had any idea she did those kinds of drugs . . . Steph has a wild side, but she's not a crazy partier."

I have not read any other comments so this 1 comes straight fro the info given: a young girl overdoses on a drug (heroin) that is becoming more common accessible than 1 can imagine! AND for those out there whom do not know what heroin really is: it is a very strong form of morphine - 'unclean' if u may, bc 1 cannot control the dose (I am a pharmacist so know a little about meds illegal drugs)! The best way to 'SAVE' our kids fro drugs is to open a line of communication at an early age (approx 5-6 yo is ok to start w little things). My kids are 10 8 yo KNOW that drugs r dangerous, especially the 1's where u cannot control the dose! They are very aware even at this age. I don't think this young girl is 'bad' bc of this ... Tho prob needs new set of friends! It can happen to ANY FAMILY do please do NOT judge!

All these ppl commenting think they know the story. Lol She doesnt have to be an addict bc she used herion. Maybe the reason she ODed was bc she doesnt use and did too much and her body wasnt used to it. The thing is we dont know what happened but talk as if we do. The bad side of drugs is everywhere. I have done my share but stay away from getting hooked on anything. Y do so many ppl fall into the trap when they know b4 hand that a drug is addictive. I just dont understand.

Why would someone overdose and almost die for publicity?I feel bad for Jon,it's gotta be hard watching your child go through something like that. Hopefully he gets her the help she needs.

Well said smfet.... Absolutely-we as parents have to intervene, stay involved and protect our kids.we can't always help them avoid life's challenges-but to be there when they fall.

As i thought when this story first came out, it could have TRUELY have been a tragedy and gone worse...much worse. could have found the girl dead, if she was found much later on. as a parent, no matter what we do, sometimes it all goes south somehow. just pray that jon and his wife get this girl the help needed. may/may not be a full-blown adict, yet, but, if it were my daughter ( i have two) , id get beween them and this drug moving heaven /earh to do so, so i dont lose my child. just saying! good luck, jon, as you will need it.

I'm very surprised that he even spoke about this. He doesn't like to talk about his family to the media. I'm glad he isn't making excuses for her mistakes like some other parents (like the Lohans). This is just one of the many reasons I love this man.

This is heartbreaking. To classify it as a way to get attention is plain idiotic. It doesn't matter. People who have not lived through or experienced drug addiction simply do not understand. She is fortunate to be alive and given the opportunity to recover. I only wish the best for her and her family as they work through the obstacles ahead. I lost a loved one to a drug overdose recently. It truly is heartbreaking, but unbelievably prevalent.
