Gone but never forgotten.

Mexican-American singer Jenni Rivera died in a plane crash near Monterrey, Mexico on Sunday Dec. 9. Traveling for a concert, the 42-year-old star was aboard a private jet with six others early Sunday morning when the aircraft went missing; the wreckage was subsequently discovered Sunday afternoon, with no survivors.

Born and raised in Long Beach, Calif., Rivera became popular for her take on regional Mexican music known as nortena and banda; nominated for several Grammy awards, she sold 15 million records during her career. She is survived by five children.

As news of her tragic death hit late Sunday, the Latin superstar was mourned and celebrated by fellow stars via Twitter. See how some of Rivera's friends and admirers remembered her and her legacy.

Ricky Martin: "This is sad. I'm a bit in shock. Much peace to her family."

Eva Longoria: "My heart breaks for the loss of Jenni Rivera & everyone on the plane. My prayers go out to her family. We lost a legend today."

Mario Lopez: "Spent some time with Jenni Rivera recently. What an amazing lady... Cool, smart, funny & talented. Such a travesty... God Bless her family"

LaToya Jackson: "I just learned that Jenni Rivers was found dead! I was hoping for the best...So sorry for the love ones of everyone in the plane."

Randy Jackson: "wow. Rip Jenni Rivera"

William Levy: "I can not believe the @ jennirivera news . . . My heart goes out to her family. I wish you all the strength in the world. God rest her soul."

Paulino Rubio: "I've been waiting for my 9:00 a.m. for my dear friend@ jennirivera but she never came. I'm crying. She left us too soon . . . There are no words — no consolation."

Gloria Estefan: "Our deepest sympathy to the family & fans of @jennirivera & those that accompanied her on what was to be her last voyage. Rest in peace."

Talk show host Cristina Saralegui: "I was saddened to hear of the news of my friend Jenni Rivera. My deepest sympathies to her family and to the family of the others on the plane. May they rest in peace."

@Carebear Jenni was born in Long Beach California. She spoke perfect english because she went to school in the United States. She had an American birth certificate just like you because she she was born in California. She had every right to be called an American because she was born and raised here. She spoke perfect spanish but that does not take away the fact that she was born in California which is part of the United States. Please educate yourself before you comment so you do not sound ignorant.Again Jenni was an American that spoke perfect english. She was brought back to the United States because this is her country.Just because she spoke Spanish does not make her any less American than you.

Terribly sad and tragic. Wonder what went wrong with the Learjet to cause it to crash. Shows we NEVER know when our last moment to be alive comes...a reminder to always treat people well and tell your friends and family you love them often.

@Carebeat....Jenni was born to Mexican parents in Long Beach, California. So indeed she IS American. But just to put another perspective on it, I am British. I was born and raised in Scotland. However, I did become an American Citizen. So technically I have dual Citizenship. I'm both British and American. Not that it counts as the same for Jenni, as she WAS born in California. So whatever you've been 'reading' about her, is incorrect. But even had she been born in Mexico (which she wasn't), she could still very well have been American. Just like I am. Since both her parents were Mexican, she would be considered first generation American. Anyway, why does it bother you? She's died in the most tragic of circumstances, and the thing that 'bothers you' is that people are saying she's American. Even if she wasn't (although she is) it shouldn't bother you. It's tragic and horrible and I don't see why her nationality even comes into it.
