Family of Kate Middleton's Hospital Nurse Speaks Out After Her Death
December 7, 2012

In the wake of nurse Jacintha Saldanha's apparent suicide on Friday, Dec. 7, everyone from the royal couple to the Australian DJs who prank called the hospital are mourning her death. But none more so than the woman's family.

Saldanha's loved ones -- among whom are her husband and two children -- expressed their devastation in a statement to Us Weekly.

"We as a family are deeply saddened by the loss of our beloved Jacintha," they said. "We would ask that the media respect our privacy at this difficult time."

An employee at London's King Edward VII Hospital, where pregnant Kate Middleton was being treated for extreme morning sickness, Saldanha is believed to have taken her own life following an earlier incident in which she fell victim to a prank call. On Wednesday, Dec. 5, Australian DJs Mel Greig and Michael Christian phoned the hospital pretending to be Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth in order to get information about the Duchess of Cambridge. Fooled by the hoax, the nurse passed them on to another employee, who then provided confidential details about Prince William**'s wife to the callers.

The DJs in question are "deeply shocked" by Saldanha's death and have agreed not to comment or return to their radio show until further notice, a rep for the station told Us in an email. (Both Greig and Christian also deleted their Twitter accounts.)

Kate Middleton and Prince William, both 30, sent their condolences, as well. "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Jacintha Saldanha," the couple said in an earlier statement. "Their Royal Highnesses were looked after so wonderfully well at all times by everybody at King Edward VII Hospital, and their thoughts and prayers are with Jacintha Saldanha's family, friends and colleagues at this very sad time."

THEY HAD TO HAVE COMMITED SOME ILLEGAL OFFENCE. THEY SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE ALONG WITH THE RADIO STATION. DISPICABLE

I'm really tired of all the people who begin their comments with; I'm sorry BUT (but being the keyword). You either feel sympathy or you don't and if you don't keep your comments to yourself to avoid hurting her family or friends even more. I don't believe this story should have been published in the first place. I don't get why people are referring to this as a prank either (in the US it's called criminal impersonation or fraud). She was a nurse and had certain rules she had to follow (or LAWS for those lay people reading), NONE OF WHICH SHE KNOWINGLY BROKE. As a nurse if you disclose confidential patient info you can be subject to lose of employment, lose of license (meaning you can never practice as a nurse again), civil suits, and criminal charges. She may have been so ashamed and scared about the consequences of what happened that she ended her life. I think what those DJ's did is borderline criminal; they impersonated members of the royal family to gain access to private info. If I impersonated a cop, tried to arrest you, and put you in the back of my car; I would be arrested and charged with a crime. You may not agree with my opinion, but the least you can do is stop talking about this poor woman. Families deal with enough grief and guilt after the suicide of a loved one without all of you calling the deceased stupid or crazy. Let this family grieve in peace.

I feel very sorry for the woman but i can't believe it was bad enough that taking her life and leaving her children was the only answer.
