Anne Hathaway** isn't known for her edginess -- and she knows it.

The Les Miserables star, who is already generating major Oscar buzz for her role as dying prostitute Fantine in the epic film, tells the February issue of Harper's Bazaar that she's fully aware of her squeaky clean good girl image.

"I'm not Rihanna," she admitted to the magazine. "I'm not cool. When people come up to me in the street, they often want a hug, not a photo, and they want that because they like my work."

Hathaway, 30, first made her mark in Hollywood as nerd-turned-royalty in the Princess Diaries movie franchise.

"For a long time it was me and [her manager] against the world," she continued. "I was seen as this bizarre-world good-girl cartoon that I in no way identified with -- very vanilla, very sweet, very accessible and not interesting."

She recalls, "I had no grit, no sex appeal."

With up-and-comers like Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence ruling the box office, Hathaway feels less desirable than ever.

"It doesn't help that the new crop of girls is so gorgeous, and so 22 years old," she told Harper's Bazaar of turning the big 3-0. "But I'm excited about it."
