What unfortunate timing.
With 48 hours to go until Sunday's Academy Awards, Bridesmaids star and Best Supporting Actress nominee Melissa McCarthy has unexpectedly fallen ill.

Skipping out on a pre-Oscars bash put on by the U.S.-Ireland Alliance Thursday, McCarthy was to be honored along with Michelle Williams, but bailed on the event on doctors' orders.

A rep for the Los Angeles event -- attended by the likes of Colin Farrell and Dana Delaney -- confirms to Us Weekly that 41-year-old McCarthy is on strict vocal rest in hopes that she'll recover in time to hit Sunday's Oscars.

"We were so sad not to have her there, but she needs to rest up to be healthy for the Oscars," the event staffer explained.

I love bridesmaides!! Hilarious... I think she did great in that movie. She really took that movie to another level. Congrats Melissa hope you get better.

Plus, I think its about time more comedys get nominated! Comedy is in my opinon a lot harder to do then drama. When was the last time you angie jolie do a comedy? (and the tourist doesnt count since it was unintentionally funny!lol)

Shes hilarious in bridesmaids,but shes nominated cause that wonderful pep talk she gives kristen wigs character in the movie. Thats what separates her from other comedians, is her acting chops. I could see her do just as well in a drama.
